In major cities it is customary to add a 5% to 10% tip to the restaurant bill, even though it usually includes a service charge. In hotels a service charge is added to your hotel bill, but you can give a small amount to the hotel staff as tips - €.75 per day to maids, €.50 to €1 per service to bellhops, at least €.50 per service for room service waiters and housekeeping valets, and €.25 for doorman who calls you a cab. If the concierge has been especially helpful, tip him up to 15% of his bill. Give taxi drivers 5% to 10% of the fare. Offer tour guides €1 per person for a half-day group tour and more if you're very pleased.
