Europe: Germany
Restaurant bills generally include a service charge. Rounding up the bill to the next euro or so is an appropriate tip beyond the service charge. Leaving the tip of the table is considered rude, so hand it directly to the waiter. Tip taxi drivers by rounding up to the next €1 or €2 form the cost of the fare. Offer appropriate and rail porters €1 or €2 above the price of the service. In hotels, tip the porter €1 per bag. Maids should be tipped €4 a day in luxury hotels, €2 a day in other hostelries. Tip room service staff at least €2 each time you order.
