Tipping in restaurants isn't customary. A service charge is always added to your check, and no further tipping is necessary unless you've had great service, in which case you might leave 5% to 10%. Small tips for bellhops and tour guides are appreciated, but the farther north you go, the more likely it will become that some hotel employees will refuse your tips. Taxi drivers expect tips, and sometimes help themselves out by telling you that they don't have the 2000D (2000 dong) or 5000D that you're expecting as change. It's up to you whether you argue for the change. Cyclo drivers should also receive small tips. They may ask for a "souvenir" after you've pad them, by which they mean tip.
