High-end hotels charge a 21% tax - part of which is a charge for various services. Beyond this, tip the bellhop Rp10,800 (10,800 rupiahs) per bag. You need to tip the room service staff only if you're requesting some special service. Tip airport porters Rp5,400 per bag. Taxi drivers aren't tipped unless you're in Jakarta or Surabaya, where you tip Rp500 or the small change left from your fare. Tip a hired driver Rp21,000 for a half-day's work. Private guides may be tipped Rp21,600 for a half day and Rp54,000 for a full day. Most restaurants add a 10% service charge to the bill, but if not, a 5% to 10% tip is fine.
