Tipping is expected in Egypt. Be sure to carry plenty of 50p (50 piastre) and £E1 (1 pound) notes to pass around to taxi drivers, porters, doorkeepers, and others. You don't need to tip a lot - a small tip of £E1 to £E2 is fine. In a restaurant tip the waiter 10% of the check before taxes, even though checks include a 12% service charge. In luxury hotels tip porters £E10 and tip half of that in lower-scale hotels. Tip chambermaids £E5 for each visit. Tip room service waiters 10% of the total bill.
